Blog #8

 During Spring Break i saw many deer while i was hiking and mountain bike riding. I usually go to hood mountain to experience nature. I keep finding ticks in my house from my dogs. I can tell its tick season but they are so gross. Also during spring break i saw a caterpillar on my garage door. He was all black with a little bit of yellow. Lastly i spent quality time with my five loving dogs.

Blog # 7

For animal day I plan to bring in my Australian sheperd named Brower, (aka Roo Roo). He is very smart and has a beautiful coat. He has been taught a lot and I want to show off some of his tricks on animal day. Although he is very spastic and energetic, I will try to keep him contained for a few hours. HAHA.

Chapter four

     In chapter 4, they run into a new hiker named Mary Ellen. She is very talkative and Katz does not like how she always thinks she is right. This adds another hiker on their journey and i think it will make the story more adveturas.

"while we ate raisins and drank coffee, with flakes of toilet paper in it, Mary Ellen gorged on a multicourse breakfast of oatmeal, pop tarts, trail mix, and a dozen small squares of chocolate, which she lined up in a row on the log beside her"(76).

    Also in this chapter, they talk about the awarness of the trees being cut down and it gives us specific numbers of the damage that has happened to forests. He even thinks of a tree falling and crushing him on the trail.

"Of the forests services, 150 million acres of loggable land, about two thirds is held in store for the future"(67).

Chapter Three

Food items i would take on a backpacking trip:

• Trail Mix
• Dried fruit and nuts
• *MRE (Meals Ready To Eat) the army uses them when deserted for a long period of time.
• Peanut Butter
• Granola Bars
• Camel back (Must bring water filter to drink from stream water)
• Top roman
• Oatmeal
• Rice

Chapter Two

    During this chapter, I found many foreshadowing examples. One example was when Katz buys and eats a lot of doughnuts, which could cause a major conflict with Bill and Katz. When Buying food for their trip, they had many disagreements and I think if this is just the beginning, then Bill is in for a long Backpacking trip.

A walk in the woods chapter one

I like this books so far but it looks like it might get boring throughout. The authors humor makes the book more fun to read. Also, i would like to learn more about the appalachian trail and this book seems perfect. I have decided that before i die i want to backpack a portion of the Appalachian trail. I hope more exciting events happen in this book to get me more attached to "A Walk In The Woods".
